Planning Blog: Title design

 After reviewing several opening scenes for films that fall under the sports genre, the time had come for the group to design our own title sequence. When doing this, I took into account all the things I learned during the research process. I found that there were several key features that needed to be included in the title design an sequence. The most important feature was the fact that the title design and sequence had to convey the overall mood and theme of the project. Our project is focused on the relationship between two teen boys and their different relationships with the sport volleyball. While the sport is the most important aspect of the project, there are comedic elements as it is meant for teenagers. Based on this information, the title sequence should feature fun, light-hearted motifs like physical effects and fun sounds.

     Additionally, the title design and sequence should also reflect the intensity of the sport. To achieve this, the text will appear on the screen slowly and then quickly fly off in the opposite direction. This is to mimic the text being hit similar to a volleyball. To further drive this home, the text will be white with a gray lining like the average volleyball. The final title will appear either on a volleyball net or scoreboard.

    The characters should be introduced as if the audience was reading their playing stats. We can use common motifs like Max Preps or sports-based shows and websites like ESPN. Max Preps is a website for high school sports that shows the stats of players and schools. Each actor could be filmed looking straight on as their statistics and name fly past them. 

    At this moment in time, the title of our project is undecided. There are several ideas being discussed, but we are far too early in the planning process to have a title. As the pitch develops, a fitting title will become more apparent. Depending on how long the title is, the title sequence may change. Accommodating the length of the title may prove to be a challenge, but it also grants us more opportunities to be creative with the title sequence.
